I have changed our quaint national characters (with dots and circles over a and o) so that you won't think that the file has been corrupted by the net. If you have any further questions about this program package, or about the DIS Society, feel free to send them to me or to this list, and I will forward them to the DIS group. /Bo Kleve ===================================================================== * * * D I S G E N * * * A Program Package for the Genealogist Copyright 1980 thru 1988: Foreningen DIS, Sweden 1. INTRODUCTION Genealogy is not only to collect data from the archives. You also need a system to handle all the data, keep them in good order and to make printouts in various ways and at different occasions. This is where the DISGEN package helps. With DISGEN you can put your ancestors on register along with the stories of their lives and their genealogical relations. Then you can produce a variety of charts and printouts with selectable format and even language. 2. SOME PROGRAM FEATURES * A Data Entry Program to enter genealogical data about your ancestors and to change such data. The data are organized in records. There are records of 3 types: 1) Event type for life milestones such as birth, marriages, migrations, death, etc. 2) Relational type to describe relations between persons. 3) Text type to describe circumstances in pure text format. * Checking and listing programs for administration and maintenance of your database. * Programs to produce descendant's charts originating from an arbitrary person. There are parameters to select format and other design features from a list of options. The chart may be printed as a tree, in tabular or in chronological format. * Programs to produce pedigrees originating from an arbitrary person. You can select which record types to include and several other design features to make the pedigree look like YOU want it. * Programs to produce alphabetical registers on names of persons or places mentioned in your database. Also you can make sorted lists from most records e.g. birthday lists, lists of Christian or family names, villages, parishes and so on. * An interactive program to "walk around" in your family tree on your computer screen. * A program to produce family sheets for selected persons. 3. LANGUAGES In DISGEN version 3.5 the following languages are selectable for printouts: English, French, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish. For example, you can make printouts for your relatives in foreign countries in their own language! The same languages except French are also selectable for the program dialogue which makes DISGEN available for international use even if the main purpose is to fulfil the needs of Scandinavian genealogists. 4. CONFIGURATION REQUIREMENTS DISGEN is primarily available for PC compatibles (MS-DOS). DISGEN requires less then 100 kb primary storage and preferably 2 x 360 kb disk drives. The programs are distributed on two 360 kb diskettes. In addition, a somewhat simpler version (3.0), is available on Luxor ABC80 and ABC800 computers. 5. HOW TO ORDER The DISGEN package can be ordered from: DIS, c/o Bjorn Johansson, Vidingsjogatan 4, (PC version) S-582 67 LINKOPING, Sweden or: DIS, c/o Lars Blomberg, Arenprisvagen 111, (ABC version) S-590 61 LINGHEM, Sweden Notice: Membership in the DIS organization is mandatory for DISGEN buyers. The membership fee is SEK 70 per year to be paid to Postal Giro 14033-5 (Foreningen DIS, Sweden) or by international check. The price of the DISGEN package is SEK 500 to be paid in the same way as the membership fee. 6. DOCUMENTATION A Users Manual is available, for now only in Swedish. 7. SUPPORT The persons mentioned above are available by mail, free of charge, for assistance on installation and use. Please include return postage. For DISGEN users there is a Bulletin, DISKULOGEN (in Swedish), with information on user's experience, problems and solutions and news on program development. DISKULOGEN is issued about three times a year. ========================================================================= Newsgroups: soc.roots Subject: Genealogy program in BASIC Date: 4 Mar 88 20:44:32 GMT Keywords: seven parts total I have just acquired and begun to test a BASIC program called "Genealogy on Display". It has provisions for printing an 80 page User's manual. The entire package consists of SIX PARTS. The parts are labeled: genea1.doc, genea2.doc, genea1.prg, genea2.prg, genea3.prg & genea4.prg. genea0.doc also. I have posted the seven parts to comp.binaries.ibm.pc The (7) parts of the package are UUENCODED and ARC'd. After downloading, you will have to UUDECODE each part then extract all individual modules with your ARCHIVE program. The program is compatible with MS-DOS. I know very little about BASIC but have had *NO* trouble changing parameters to meet my needs. (e.g. increasing MAX.PERSONS from 500 to 1000, etc.) This is FREEWARE, seems to work VERY well on my home clone and is capable of printing pedigree charts, family groups, expanded individual info. sheets, descendents charts and more. Any questions should be EMAILED to the above path or the author should be contacted directly. (The author's name and address are in the documentation. I hope this will satisfy some of the requests for Genealogy software packages. I'm new to the group so I hope this is not repost of shareware already available.
