Individual was out of town due to serious illness in family. The following is
the original posting as edited. Please contact Mr. Motes directly.

I'd like to contact anyone who served with the 508th Anti-Aircraft Artillery
Gun Battalion in New Guinea and the Phillipines during World War II. I was a
gunner on a 90-millimeter anti-aircraft gun assigned to Battery D. The
battalion was organized as a separate coast artillery battalion (anti-
aircraft) 20 May 1943 at Camp Stewart, Georgia. It was redesignated 508th AAA
Gun Battalion (Semi-mobile) 7 June 1943. We departed San Francisco Port of
Embarkation 12 July 1944 and landed in New Guinea 23 August 1944. We landed in
the Philippines 9 January 1945 and were at Clark Field, Manila when the war
ended. We came home on the USS YORKTOWN ("The Fighting Lady"). We boarded ship
at Manila Bay on Christmas Eve, 1945 and arrived in San Francisco 9 January
1946. The YORKTOWN is now a floating museum permanently moored at Patriot's
Point, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
