The British bark LISBON, George Fisher, master, arrived at New York on 10
September 1848, 50 days from Glasgow, with 3 passengers in the cabin and
89 in steerage. You will find a microfilm copy of the passenger manifest
for this voyage in National Archives Microfilm Publication M237, roll 75,
list #1035 for 1848. You can borrow a copy of this microfilm through
AGLL, any LDS (Mormon) Family History Center (Family History Library
microfilm #0175426), or Interlibrary Loan.

The bark LISBON, 443/471 tons (old/new measurement), was built in Wilmot,
Nova Scotia [Ship Information Database,
http://susan.chin.gc.ca:8013/basisdbdocs/title1e.html], in 1846, and was
until approximately 1856 registered at St. John, New Brunswick. The
following information is taken from the annual volumes of _Lloyd's
Register of Shipping_ for 1848/49-1859/60:

     Master:
          1848-1849 - Fisher
          1850-1853 - J. Brinton
          1854-1855 - not given
          1856 - W. Smith
          1857-1859 - J. Gray

     Owner:
          1848-1855 - "Eaton & C"
          1856-1859 - Turnbull

     Port of Registry:
          1848-1852 - St. John, NB
          1853 - not given
          1854 - St. John, NB
          1855 - not given
          1856-1858 - Shield[s]
          1859 - not given

     Port of Survey:
          1848-1852 - Liverpool
          1853 - not given
          1854 - London
          1855 - not given
          1856 - Shields
          1857-1858 - Newcastle

     Destined Voyage:
          1848-1852 - St. John, NB
          1853 - not given
          1854 - St. John, NB
          1855 - not given
          1856 - Mediterranean
          1857-1858 - Spain
          1859 - not given

     Rating:
          1848-1852 - A1
          1853 - not given (expired)
          1854 - AE1
          1855 - not given (expired)
          1856-1858 - AE1
          1859 - not given (expired)

The entries in the _Register_ for 1853/54, 1855/56, and 1859/60 give only
the name of the master and the name of the owner, and indicate that at the
time of going to press the vessel had not appeared for a scheduled survey,
and her rating had therefore expired. The last reference to the LISBON
appears in the _Register_ for 1859/60. I do not know her subsequent
history or ultimate fate. However, if she was lost in British waters
there should be a reference to the fact in the published Board of Trade
casualty returns, which I shall check in the next few days.
