Society Fees Sender: roots-in@rootsweb.com In response to my message bemoaning the fact that most genealogical/historical societies ask that dues/subscriptions be paid around the first of the year, causing a dent in my budget--I have received some very nice replies, all of which boil down to the suggestion that I use some means of saving money throughout the year. If some method is adhered to faithfully, and the money not used for anything else, it should be sufficient when the time for renewals come. To be honest, this thought had never entered my head! I do a pretty good job of budgeting for other things and handling our family finances, but somehow genealogical expenses were in a separate world, I guess. Thanks to all who opened my eyes, and to anyone else who has a similar problem, I say--let's budget for it!
