Hi Rooters:

I am stuck in the 1855 NY state NY county 1855 census.
The family name is "Roome" - Henry, Marie, maybe more.
Henry Roome was born in Harlem (death certificate) on
Feb 22 1854. sister Eugenie' was born june 22 1856
in Yorkville. Census done early June 1855 - family moved to Yorkville
around July 1855. Several kind souls have been helping me with the wards
in NY city (which is NY county) for this census, To Wit:
------------------------------------------------------------------
Harlem, a Dutch name Haarlem, was to be the up and coming "suburb" for
northern Manhattan. Harlem was roughly from Central Park West to the East
River and from about 96 Av to 130 Av. Yorkville, was a focal point for
German immigrants. Its main street was 86th Ave and ran from Central
Park E (5th Ave) to the East River.

12th Ward (1855)
   ED#1 86th St - Hudson River - 120th St - 7th Ave
   ED#2 86th St - 7th Ave - 120th St - Harlem River (inc Ward's Island)
   ED#3 7th Ave - 144th St - Harlem River - 120th St (inc Randall's
          Island)
   ED#4 Hudson River - 144th St - 7th Ave - 120th St
ED#5 Hudson River - Spuyten Devil Creek - Harlem River - 144th St
--------------------------------

I got the film for Ward 12 (unindexed) and didn't see them in Ward 12.
(Did see lots of "inmates", infants, and insane people)
They may have had money. Can someone with access to the 1855 ward map
and/or knowledge of the city suggest other wards incompassing Harlem
and Yorkville?

Maralyn Douglas/Melinda Yates guide "NY state census records 1790-1925
is supposed to have 1855 indexed. Also David Paul Davenport's
"State Census of NY 1825-75". Anybody have access to them ????

THANKS Tom Wood respond also to tomcat@visi.com
