When I was researching my ex-husband's tree I was able to track many members
of his family using the annual town reports. The town reports were an
invaluable resource for me, giving me birthdates and death dates, marriages,
maiden names, etc. They also gave me a snapshot of what his family did when.
School reports were also in them. I loved a phrase from one of the earliest
ones:"Hoggs (sic.) were voted to roam freely on the green for the next
year."

I've been doing my tree for the past 15 years and still consider myself an
amateur. I don't know whether states outside of New England have this
resource available, but if they do, they helped me immensely.
