Here are two more examples. "Delayed Birth Certificates" became common around the 1940's, probably mostly
because of the requirements of Social Security. Maybe also for passports. I have seen delayed birth
certificates where the supporting evidence of age, if not actual birth date, was a school record.

Also, a more modern application is that in cases where a party has to prove residence in a particular
location at a particular time, as with the current "Downwinders" government reimbursement for
diseases/deaths caused in whole or in part because of radiation exposure during the Nevada testing in the
50's and 60's, school records are a big part of that proof.

The biggest hurdle, in early records, is that they may simply be gone. From a genealogical perspective,
they may not list parent's names (or they may, in the form of a "contact" form), but from a family history
point of view, these records provide a glimpse into the lives of the children, which is what this is all
about.
