Carolyne - you were successful in just doing it! To post a message however,
there might be a thing or two to consider. I don't know that there is any
perfect way to post a query, and there always seems to be someone who
doesn't like one thing or the other but here's how I try to approach it.

Presuming that you are wanting to post something on a family your are
researching, then remember not to post too many things/names in a single
request. Better to do a couple. And be sure you give the surname or
surnames in the Subject Line ... that way it is easy for those who are
interested to notice it; and those who have no interest can quickly hit
their delete key.

For posting, make it simple ... name and data that you have w/question what
you are seeking.
Name, b. [date] d. [date] of [county & state] or anything else that you
have. Please remember that the cleaner and easier you make it, the more
help you can usually expect. Example. give the *county* as well as the
state .. and the town is great if you have it. But remember that it is the
*county* that records are filed in (and even the census is accessed via
county) so don't ask you readers to look that up ... you should do it prior
to posting. Try to keep your post in chronological order --- easier than
wading through an e-mail to put it in order (and many times when I'm rushed,
I just don't respond ... sorry).

Finally, it is find not to give your full name if you don't want to
(although I see you do), but please give your location ... many times when I
answer a post I am able to suggest a repository to further the research -
and sometimes even a person I know there that would be willing to help.

Now, ask away - that's the reason for the list!
