Goodness, it's been a decade since ROOTS-L changed from LISTSERV software (NDSU and eWorld) to SmartList. Now RootsWeb is moving on, and switching over to MailMan software. How will this affect us? Perhaps very little. The digests will still be "inline", but will look slightly different. They'll start over with #1 (we're at #413 or so for the year now). All those files we could order by e-mail? We won't be able to do that anymore. (Well, so they're all available on the ROOTS-L web site, anyhow, so no big?) After the transition (sometime next week), you can optionally receive the digest in "MIME" format. What that looks like will depend largely on the software you use to read mail. If you want to try it and find out, drop a note (AFTER the move) to roots-admin@rootsweb.com and ask for your digest format to be toggled to MIME. If you hate it, you can always ask to be toggled back. (Don't ask now, I'll never remember!) If your messages to the list bounce back as errors, wait a few hours and try again. There've been a few bumps during the transition, and we might hit a few ourselves. Um, those of you in index mode (who probably aren't reading this) will be contacted separately, the change will be most noticeable by you... OK, back to genealogy!
