Exporting a Gedcom

Follow these steps to export a GEDCOM file from Legacy:

1. Click Export To / GEDCOM File from the File menu. (Or press Ctrl-E)

2. Select the type of GEDCOM file to produce.(if you want to later import
this gedcom into other genealogy programs, choose Generic as the type)

3. Check the boxes corresponding to the records you want to include in the
file.

4. Click Compiler... to make sure the information about you, the compiler or
creator of the GEDCOM file, is correct.

5. If you want to change the default list of field information that to be
included in the GEDCOM file, click Customize.

6. When you have made all the desired settings, click Select File Name and
START EXPORT.

7. From the Export GEDCOM File dialog box, select the desired folder and
type in the name of the file you want to create. This can be any name up to
255 characters. Often, an appropriate surname makes a good filename.

To get this information from the Legacy interface choose:
Help > Search for help on > and type gedcom in the input box.

I purchased Legacy Deluxe version 5.0 and really liked the program, but I
have now updated to the FREE Legacy 6 standard edition and I am very
satisfied with the free version. I have purchase paid versions of Legacy
twice, and twice made the decision to upgrade to the free upgrade. I do not
think there is any significant difference between the free and deluxe
versions of Legacy. I may purchase the Deluxe version 6 just to support the
company that provides this program free of charge. I have tried many
genealogy database programs and Legacy is hands down the best of the free or
free trial programs I have found. It is better at making my data into
customized genealogy 'books' complete with index than any genealogy program
I have tried. It will export nearly all its reports into rich text format
files that I can import into Word and customize to the nith degree. And you
can try it free for a week or many years, and then decide if you want to
purchase the paid version. Or, if you later decide to change to another
genealogy database program, you can export your data in a gedcom and use it
in the new program. What's not to like?
