Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: ROOTS-L Digest V06 #406/immigration

Joyce.
This might help you. I came over in 1952 on a steamship to NY. Those records
are held by the pentagon. The National Archives have them on file. They many
have come over on the 1948 Immigration Displaced Persons Act. A lot of those
immigrates came over on USNS Steamships. Mine was USNS General Charles H. Muir
leaving Bremerhaven Germany. These ships have Manifest of all In-Bound
Passengers(Aliens). Also check NY Newspapers for ships coming into Port they name all
ships coming in and will tell from where and if they are carrying Aliens and
how many. Mine had 2,188 of us from various ports to NY. The manifest will tell
you how old, their immigration number and their destination to that point and
their nationality. Hope this helps.

If you want to locate any family members once you find your info or maybe now
Check with your RED CROSS. They have a form" Holocaust and World War ll
Tracing Program" TRACING INQUIRY to locate any if any family members that might
have survived the war. I'm doing that now it takes about 6-18 months but its will
be worth it if I have family some where back there.

Wish you luck,
Krys Murphy
