Subject: [ROOTS-L] Passenger data, paupers, Sandhurst to USA

The parish records of Sandhurst, Kent, England show that the good fathers
and parish worthies decided it would be cheaper to send their paupers to the
USA, rather than keep them on their books as paupers. (I looked for all of
them at the NARA and found they were not registered as passengers in NY.)

In 1826, on the ship "Virginia," these were the passengers sent to somewhere
in the USA.
FULLER, George and Jemima. Four children and a baby.
HARRIS, James (26) and Mary. One child, one baby. Mary was born a LONGLEY.
HARRIS, William (22). Brother of James.
WENBAN, Charles (29) and his wife.
MAINARD, John (19)
WYBOURNE, George (15)

In 1827 on the ship "Hercules" were these passengers sent to somewhere in
the USA.

COLEMAN, T. Longley (28) and Harriet (21) Thomas, 2 and 1/2. Elizabeth (9
months)
Lavender, John and Elizabeth. John (11) Nancy (9) Thomas (3) Harriet (2)
{He was an illegitimate son of Thomas Longley and Martha Coleman. {Harriet
was born a MAINARD)
MAINARD, William (48) and Hannah (45). William (23), Henry (17). Joseph
(12) Eliza (11). Richard (9). Hannah (7). Samuel (5) Stephen (2).
EDMUNDS, William (22) Edmunds mother was a Maynard.
SIVYER, Henry (20)
WENBAN, William (25) James (20) Edward (18) All three brothers to
Charles, sailed 1826.

1828 on ship "London" were these two families sent to somewhere in the USA.

SWAITLAND, Stephen and Sarah. Stephen (9), James (7), Solomon (5), Spencer
(3), Samuel (1).

WYBOURN, John and Martha. Martha (25), John Orlando (22), William (19),
Mary Anne (17), Sarah Serena (10) Gerard Noel (8), Robert (5). George, who
sailed in 1826 was the eldest of 10 children and was brother to John.

In 1828, families applied to go to Australia, another to New South Wales,
another to Sydney. Same for Canada. No names were given in any case.

Extracted from "Sandhurst Chronicles" published by a committee in Sandhurt,
Kent, England. No publication date, but 1980 appears to be the latest date
in the body of the book.

It may be possible to trace them in the 1830 or 1840 censuses, perhaps in
Filby's books. I've not tried.
