Subject: [ROOTS-L] laminating

Lamination becomes part of the item laminated. I did this also but now do
the following on irreplaceable items.

An alterative to lamination is to encapsulate. Useing Mylar or a poly
product cut two sheets a minimum of 1" larger than the document. Flatten
the document first. place doublesided tape on the parimeterof the bottom
sheet. Place the document inside those margins. Set the top clear sheet on
top the document lining it up on the edges to meet the adhesive. Roll over
this "capsule" with a rolling pin, beginning from the center to remove air
bubbles. I round corners with a nail clipper. If you will be doing
a piece larger than 5x7 have a partner to help you practice until you a
familiar with the process or practice with non family documents. This
will stableize an item until a professional can work with it, or you
decide it is something you want
restored.
