I personally do very little to track down distant living relatives, but
occasionally a few have found me by finding my database on WorldConnect. I
would feel apprehensive if someone I did not know wanted all the details on
my children and grandchildren, so I don't ask this of others either unless
we have an established relationship already.

Personally, I like working on the old families where one can use a
variety research skills and try to piece together families bit by bit
through vital records, land records, wills, etc.. If I can bring lines down
to about 1900 and back as far as I can take them, other relatives wanting to
pursue this hobby can probably connect the few generations missing to get to
where I stopped.

I was lucky to "inherit" some family information someone who passed on
the work of a cousin of my 88 year old mother who collected information on
my grandmother's siblings and their children. When I do share reports I
generally stop them at people who are in their late 80s age wise. People in
the older generation are usually thrilled to find their names in a report.
As for the grandchildren they can trace back a few generations from
themselves should they be interested when older.

So for those of you frustrated with family of your generation and
younger generations who are apprehensive or downright refusing information,
go back from your parents, and grandparents. If you share on WorldConnect
or similar database, the reluctant ones can find your work should they be
interested and who knows maybe they will someday contact you.
