For instance , if they grew up never knowing their mother's sister, then they would never think to inquire "Was she ever married", "Did she ever have kids"...So when you finally do 'pop' into their lives they don't consider you part of the family cause you were never at the family functions. You're the outsider, you're the long lost cousin...They don't realize that you consider them the long lost cousin! I would like to add that I have never made that initial contact yet, this is just the impression I get when I speak with others who have. I'm in Ottawa too! You wouldn't happen to be researching the last names Snow or Pedneault would you? My Snow people arrived here in 1800 with Philemon Wright (the American that settled Hull). My Pedneault people arrived here c1880 from further up the St. Lawrence.
