It sounds as if you've had some hurtful experiences in trying to touch
bases. I have always been amazed/amused at the stories of unknown cousins
finding warm and fuzzy kin and traveling half the world to have a happy,
happy first visit and compare genealogical charts. Yeh. Right. Ok, maybe it
happens. One time in a million. It would seem that most people don't give a
darn for kin they didn't grow up with and maybe not for them, either. I've
only contacted cousins who already published on the web and offered to fill
in some blanks for them. Once in a while, someone would write back. Most
don't care. If it isn't THEIR direct line they can't be bothered. I've had
11th half cousins I didn't realize existed send e-files of their family
trees and wrote to thank them and find out who they are. I've kept their
files, of course, but I've several thousand people in my ged.com as it is
and I don't really visualize going back several hundred years to add/merge
the family line sent me. I suppose I have a greater interest in the compiler
than in their 7th great grandma who was my 6th cousin by adoption seven
times removed.

Of all those I've found in doing research there has only been one man a long
way away who has stayed in touch, off and on, throughout the years. I don't
suppose this is atypical. It is, however, unfortunate.

As for Patricia.....how unusual that she has a name shared, before marriage,
by an old classmate of long ago. The other Patricia was in Ohio and became,
I believe, a Hannihan by marriage. She'd be 59-61 years of age now.
