Subject: [ROOTS-L] Why won't cousins talk to me?

Patricia in Ottawa, this problem has been an on-going frustration in the family I search. I have searched all descendants of one unusual surname (midwestern U.S. and Texas) for 36 years and have tried repeatedly to contact descendants by e-mail of one of my grt-grt-grandfather's brothers, Philip Highnote, who went to Texas in 1844. I have contacted at least 8 of these distant cousins with offers of help and have received only 2 answers with no information! No one seems very willing to share information with me, though I have always shared freely with about 50 correspondants and dozens of e-mailers over the years. The descendants of the one original couple, Philip's parents, now number about 3000 with their spouses. Much of the verified information I have on the Texas families, I received about 1978 from a family member who lived in Navarro County. After 5 years of trying to get some answers by e-mail, I've just about given up adding to that family's info. Hope you !
have better luck with your cousins!
