Hi Annell.

    I simply scan my vital records and put them in a separate folder in the 
"My Pictures" folder of my computer.  Then they will be together with and 
easily backed up to an external hard drive, cd, etc. when I back up the rest 
of my pictures.

    Having the scanned documents with your picture folders can aid in 
putting your genealogy pictures and vital records folder on cd to 
distribute.

    I personally don't link pictures to my genealogy database but many 
people do this.  One program you might like to investigate with several 
options for multimedia is RootsMagic which you can download and try out for 
free at www.RootsMagic.com

    The reason that I keep documents and pictures separate from the database 
is that I want control when and where and in what size I add the pictures 
and scanned records into any printed report I create to send to others.
