Barbara, you should be able to find a lot of that by working back from
yourself to your g-g-g-grandfather.  All along the way are the clues.
where were his children born, for example?  If you have a direct line from
yourslef to this g-g-g-grandfather, then turn that info around and begin
with him to do a time-line .... year/date first - name & event. Often you
will see the clue jump out at you.

1764 --- NAME? arrives at Annapolis aborad convict ship from  England and
continue on down  ..... you'll have some locations that should answer your
question.
