We are speaking of a different situation.  The parties in question are first asking a question, then, when
one of us decides to respond to the person, not to the list, they get an auto-reply asking them to
"verify" in some way that they are legitimate.

You are, I think, allowing questionable e-mails to go to your "maybe junk" box, where *you* personally
decide whether or not to read. The person sending has to do nothing.
