Just a footnote to your reply. Giacomo is normally translated a James.
John is Giovanni
Joe

Melinda.

Listed as "Missi". I found it in Ancestry by using Erm* and the birthplace.

Year: 1910; Census Place: Syracuse Ward 15, Onondaga, New York; Roll:
T624_1056; Page: 14B; Enumeration
District: 169; Image: 885.

1903 probably has papers in for
naturalization. Notation is "Pd"; speaks English is a mason on Buildings
Ermilinda wife f w 26 m1 3 0/0 It/Italian It/Italian It/Italian 1907

And, of course, Giacomo has become John.

I found in 1920:

Year: 1920;Census Place: Syracuse Ward 18, Onondaga, New York; Roll:
T625_1249; Page: 1B; Enumeration
District: 216; Image: 1017.

Joseph son m w 4 S NY Italy Italy
Clerici, Katie daughter f w 0/12 s NY Italy Italy
Clerici [Louie?] brother m w 33 s 1903[4] al Italy Italy Italy cook Hotel

By the way, HQ has Musse for the surname. Wouldn't have found it if I hadn't
found it in the 1910 first.

(Ancestry has:
Lena Mussi 36
George Mussi
William Mussi 6
Joseph Mussi 4
Hattie Clenci 0/12
Louis Clenci 33

Not clear on the immigration dates -- even on Heritage Quest (the better
pics for this census year) you
can hardly make them out.

I'll forward the scans to you by separate e-mail.

Pat (in Tucson)

|
|My paternal grandfather, Giacomo Mussi, came to the U.S. in
|1902. He came through Ellis Island and I have sent for and
|received information from them. I know, according to these
|records that he was going to Syracuse, New York to be with his
|cousin, Marco Mussi, who had come over from Italy earlier. He
|came to Syracuse as a mason.
|
|My grandmother, Ermelinda Clerici came over in 1906 to marry
|Giacomo. Donšt know if they ever married or not but they did
|have four children. My problem lies with the fact that I canšt
|find him once he allegedly arrived in the U.S. He does not
|show up on any census records. My father was born in 1914 and
|said that his father died when he was about 5 (that would make
|it 1919 or so).
|
|Any suggestions as to how I can find this man? I live in
|Missouri now, not Syracuse, so travel is, pretty much, out of
|the question. Many thanks for any help anyone can provide.
