(We hope) Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com Thanks to the expertise of a local researcher in both Mills and Page counties, Iowa, and Katherine of this list, and cousin Eileen - I think the mystery of Sterling Davis and his wives may be solved. Here is the conclusions so far - please let me know if any of this seems wrong... Sterling Davis, son of Asa and Sarah (Richardson) Davis was born on August 16, 1822 in Livingston county, NY. He married Maria Shoemaker on May 30, 1842 in Quincy, Adams county, IL. [have marriage record]. They had 8 children: Warren W.; Amelia M.; William; Catherine; Wallace; George; Sarah; Lillie P. [re: various census] February 9, 1876: Maria divorces Sterling in Mills county, IA. [divorce record: Book C, District Court Record, Page 584]. March 30, 1876: Sterling marries 2nd wife: Maria (Anderson) Crosby, widow of Nelson D. Crosby, who died in 1874 [Page County, Iowa Marraiges 1852-1880]. Nelson and Maria had 3 children: Mary Ann, Franklin and Jennie [re: 1870 Washington county, IA census]. Maria was the daughter of Jonathan and Julie Ann (Gardner) Andrson [re: Ancestry.com] 1879: Otto is born to Sterling and Maria (re: 1880 Mills county, IA census. Mary Ann, Franklin and Jennis are living with them). May 16, 1882: Maria (Shoemaker) Davis signs her will. Will Book II 1884-1894, page 6 (yes, those are the correct years!).[http://iagenweb.org/boards/mills/documents] May 19, 1882: Maria (Shoemaker) Davis passes away in Mills county, IA. [photos of gravestone; no obit found] 1900 Page county census shows Sterling, Maria and Otto. August 23, 1902: Sterling passes away in Page county, IA [obituary and photo of gravestone] September 4, 1904: Maria (Anderson Crosby) Davis passes away in Page county, IA [grave photo] I have information on Warren W.
