In response to numerous requests for info about Camp Swift in Texas, I
tracked down the source of my last post. You can access the info at:

Camp Swift is in Bastrop County, Texas, (near Austin?)
 
This site quotes the letter left in a typewriter by the young German soldier
who said "Goodby, you swell life."  The site says that many of the POWs were
sent to England for "cleanup" for two years before being returned to
Germany. Apparently, this young soldier believed he was slated first for
England, then for Eastern Germany under the Russians.
