Go to the rootsweb worldconnect site http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi and enter the town or location name in, say, the birthplace field. No other names, dates, anything. For the example town, I get over 7000 hits. Many of the hits will show county and state, and in fact the first several do show Rensselaer County, NY. There are also matches in Connecticut. Next, knowing what state to look in, go to goggle maps at http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&q= and enter 'Schaghticoke, NY' and then hit the 'Search Maps' button. You get a closeup showing right where the town is. Note that for our example, there were no matches in Connecicut, however. Rik Vigeland
