I remember my grandmother (who emigrated to the US in the 1930's) telling stories about her brother, Xaver Eichler, being a prisoner of war. My recollection is that she said he was held in South Carolina, but I'm not certain of that. She had a painting in her house that is now in my mother's house that she said he painted while a prisoner of war.
