Subject: [ROOTS-L] German Prisoners of World War II Held in the United States - South Carolina

Are there records of German prisoners of war who were held in the
United States during World War II?

I remember my grandmother (who emigrated to the US in the 1930's)
telling stories about her brother, Xaver Eichler, being a prisoner of
war. My recollection is that she said he was held in South Carolina,
but I'm not certain of that. She had a painting in her house that is
now in my mother's house that she said he painted while a prisoner of
war.

In searching the web, there are references to the camps and some
articles, but nothing that I've found points to a source of records
about the prisoners.
