  I work for two funeral homes in Texas. We are required to make a report of  
  death to the county clerk where the person dies. We are also required to make a 
   report to the Social Security office with the person's SS# and surviving 
  spouse  and address (if there is one). We make these report the usually the same 
  day or  at least the next day after a person dies.
