Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: Beaufort National Cemetery

The VA site for the cemetery at http://www.cem.va.gov/nchp/beaufort.htm
gives information about visitation hours and rules. On the left side of the
page there is a link called Nationwide Graveside Locator. If you type in
Searles only with no first name and page through the list the following
information comes up. For some reason if the first name is put in the
record won't come up.

 126. SEARLES, ORIN W
 PVT US ARMY
 DATE OF DEATH: 01/03/1865
BURIED AT: SECTION 5 SITE 244
 BEAUFORT NATIONAL CEMETERY
1601 BOUNDARY STREET BEAUFORT, SC 29902
 (843) 524-3925

Another site Internment.net at
http://www.interment.net/data/us/sc/beaufort/beaunat/index_sase.htm gave the
following information. For some reason he is listed twice.

Searles, Orin W, PVT CO B 58 IND INF, Plot: 244, *
Searles, Orin W, d. 01/03/1865, PVT B 58 IND INF, Plot: 244,

The date of death doesn't match the information you have given and this was
the only Searles in Beauford National Cemetery or with a similar name. Was
your gg-grandfather in the 58th?

Fairfax, VA
