Subject: [ROOTS-L] Beafort National Cemetery

My gg-grandfather, Orrin A. Sarles, died in the Savannah Hospital on or about January 3, 1863. According to the book, "The Honor Roll," he, a Union Army soldier is listed as Orrin Searles and buried in the Beaufort National Cemetery. Floyd County, Indiana, relatives assure me he is buried in New Albany, IN, but they cannot identify which cemetery or provide a pix of his gravestone. Gravestone pix with this name, do not show correct b. and d. dates.

What can you tell me about visitation rules (and hours) to the Beaufort Cemetery and is there on-line a list of the Union Army dead buried there with gravestone locations.

NOTE: His Union Army Records Jacket variously spells his name as: Oran, Orin, Orrin, etc., and Sarles, Searles, etc. Daily record entries show these various spellings - some entries were in the same handwriting.

Maurice L. Sarles, Jr.
