Subject: [ROOTS-L] Computer Genealogy Meeting

WHAT: Computer Assisted Genealogy Group-Cleveland Area Meeting

WHEN: Saturday, June 17, 2006 - Doors open at 9 a.m.; meeting 9:30 a.m. with
general program/speaker. Breakout sessions for the major genealogy software
programs start at 11 a.m.; brown bag lunch; computer fundamentals from 1-2
p.m.

WHERE: Fairview Park Regional Library, 21255 Lorain Road, Fairview Park OH

PROGRAM:

Morning Program: Life of a Postcard, by Jean Hoffman

Postcards were saved more than other papers, preserved addresses, a person's
handwriting and interesting information. Even if they were never mailed, the
pictures really are "worth a thousand words,"

especially as they often show a view totally unlike today. Learn where to
look for these gems in the family, antique marts, archives and online. Jean
will show ways to interpret and make them an exciting part of your family
history.

Afternoon Session: Genealogy in Your Hand: small devices, with Jean Hoffman.

Explore the alphabet soup of PDA, GPS, CF, SD, SM, flash, thumb and more of
the small devices genealogists are using that fit in the palm of your hand.
Some are just a conveniently portable format for your data, but PDAs have
some powerful genealogy programs that can mesh with your "real" program for
a wonderful research tool.

The Computer Assisted Genealogy Group was formed in 1991 to 1) encourage the
use of personal computers for researching and processing genealogy data and
2) provide the resources for computer assisted genealogy education. Meetings
of the Computer Assisted Genealogy Group-Cleveland Area are held nine times
a year at the new Fairview Park Regional Library, 21255 Lorain Road,
Fairview Park, Ohio. Normally on the third Saturday of each month; no
meetings are scheduled in July, August or December. Guests are welcome.
