PORTER. >From the SSDI we found that he was b.1 Nov. 1879 in Canada and died Dec. 1963 at age 84 in Maine. He was a retired RR worker. The 1910 census has him living with his family in Worcester Co., Holden Ma. His family tells us that he left home abt. 1917 while working for the RR. Over the years he was known to be working in N&S Carolina, Texas and Wyoming, where he may have been working for the Union Pacific RR. We found a Jacob N. PORTER in the 1920 census living in Stephens Tx. at abt. the right age but it said he was b. in Ks. I was unable to find him on the image Series T625 Roll 1844 page 126. A researcher has told us that he did not die in Maine in 1963. SS has told us that his SS/RR number was issued in 1949 and that they discontinued his number series in 1963. Did he die in 1949 and did SS/RR just clear his file in 1963? This is a real puzzle. Two of his children are in their 90`s and would like to know what happened to their father. Your help will be appreciated. Don
