Hi Carol

My advice is to concentrate on the 1870 census. You should
find Elizabeth as a 10 year (give or take a year or two)
with her parents. Instead of using creative spelling, make
wildcards your friend!

For eg on Ancestry.com I can search under

	eliz* tac*

which covers a great deal of possible spellings for first
and last name.

If that comes up empty, try 'lizzie' but use wildcards and
use liz*

Also you can try as the surname tuc* or tic* or tak*
 and so on...

Another idea is to search just under the surname (I'd use
tac* to start), AND Alleghany county - since Elizabeth and
hubby lived there. Also be sure to think about the fact
that if they are German, Elizabeth was probably her middle
name, not her first, so she may be under something like
"Anne Elizabeth" or some such name - perhaps even "Anne E"
so you will never find her under "Elizabeth"

For a how-to on using search engines and wildcards see
http://olivetreegenealogy.blogspot.com/

As an aside, I had a quick look in 1870 using the ideas I
gave you above, and found a suitable candidate -- Mary E.
Tacker
 birth Year: abt 1862
Age in 1870: 8
Birthplace: Pennsylvania
Home in 1870: Pittsburgh Ward 20, Allegheny, Pennsylvania
Post Office: Wilkins

Her mother, Mary E. age 32 was born in Hanover Germany, her
father (Barney?) age 35 was born in Prussia. Little Mary E.
has a sister called Mary A. (which reinforces my point
about middle names, that's a German custom to give a child
two names at birth with the second name being the name
used)

For help with census records see
http://allcensusrecords.com/ There's a great deal you can
learn from the census besides names, ages and occupations -
such as immigration years, naturalization years, etc
