Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: One World Tree
Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com

I figured I'd clear this up before it gets out of hand. The information that
is in question in this particular thread came from my files and ended up on
One World Tree without my knowledge. Yes, I'm well aware that information
submitted through Genealogy.com ends up as public information. I, like most
people, am also guilty of not thoroughly reading the user agreements which are
written in legal-ese and not always easy to understand.

However, the information taken from my files was never submitted to
Genealogy.com nor was it posted on an FTM family tree site or any other online site.
How can I tell? The incorrect spellings of some of the names were only in the
files in my computer and had never been put on a public access site. They
were in my FTM software program and were soon corrected.

Also,my mother was mistaken. These files were from the 1-2 years, not four
years ago. Those that have used early versions of FTM may remember the pop up
messages asking if you'd like to submit your info to FTM's database and it
gave you the option to say yes or no. Those using later versions know that those
pop ups don't show up any more. I still use FTM for lack of having decided
on another program that is as user friendly. However, I'm glad that my living
people show up as "Private" for their safety.
