Subject: [ROOTS-L] Murphys of Deer Isle Maine--Medical need

My 2x great grandmother was Hannah Murphy of Deer Isle, Maine. She married James Moulden circa 1830 and died Oct 23, 1912. I have been unable to determine exactly who her parents were and where they came from. I am guessing the origin was Ireland, with the name Murphy and the fact that my grandmother always said she had Irish blood in her.

I have been working on that line for years but have been slowed down by my father's death from cancer 3 years ago and my Mom's ensueing poor health and depression at his loss. Now I have a real need to find more on the Murphy origins.

My daughter, age 35, has been diagnosed with possible celiac disease--a wheat/gluten intolerance which has some very tough complications possible if the diet is not followed exactly--for life. Lab tests were inconclusive--suggestive--but the doc is not convinced that it is true. He asked if we had any Irish in our lines and if so--where they originated. My daughter told him "MY mom is soooo into genealogy that if we do--she will know!!!" LOL Apparently celiac disease (could the name be from Celtic???) was discovered in a particular area of Ireland where it is rampant and is often passed down to family members, even generations later. If our Murphy's came from that area--he would lean more toward reading the test as positive. If we can't prove that she does NOT have it--she will be one a bread/wheat and more, restricted diet for life.

Has anyone found the origin of the Murphy's of Deer Isle? I would love to hear from anyone who has placed them.

  Barb in CT
