Subject: [ROOTS-L] Major errors on Ancestry

I think we have all found errors on any posted trees on the internet and it certainly can be frustrating. Many of them are errors that simply using some common sense, it should be apparent that the information is incorrect.
I also have spent a great amount of time over a 30 year period doing my trees and have been as careful in documentation as possible. Saying that, I know that there are also errors in mine as mistakes can always be made by humans. I am always open to information sent to me by other family members and then try to document and make whatever changes are necessary.
One World Tree has the option to edit each individual in a tree. When I have alternate information, I do this along with my sources. This is then listed on the right side of the page when doing a search of an individual so that data can be compared. It is up to us then to decide which information is correct from our own documentation. I also send e-mails to any others who are researching this individual giving them the option of comparing and sharing.
In addtion to this, I have a family page at Tribal pages with my own information on it. I keep this updated and make any corrections I am aware are needed.
We are not going to possibly get all incorrect information off the internet. We can just make sure that we are as careful as possible and post out our info and hope that others doing research to the documentaion and not just copy what someone else has posted. I personally us other trees that I find as a referrence point and the do my best to document and add only information that I am at least to a point certain is correct.
