Subject: [ROOTS-L] "THE PAUL ODLE LEGACY"

  The Paul Odle Legacy¡±

It was the 24 August 2001 when I lost my database of 95,000 relatives in my computer. That loss represented seven years of typing 50 years worth of my research and 60 years of my father¡¯s cousin ROSALIE WAGNER of Dodge City, Kansas. It also ruined my computer. I lost my book ¡°The Paul Odle Legacy¡±. I probably lost enough data for 40 or 50 more books. I bought a new computer and started putting all of the Odle/Odell Families and their stories back into my database. I finished writing the book ¡°THE PAUL ODLE LEGACY,¡± in November 2003. I have written all nine of my books on a program called ¡°FAMILY ORIGINS¡± by Parsons Technology.

I have tried since November of 2003 to get my new computer and new printer to print out that manuscript with out success. My oldest daughter JOYCE CAROL ODLE/MINTZAS has made numerous trips to Yukon, Oklahoma and to my home in Lawton, Oklahoma to try to get my computer to print out the manuscript for this book. My cousin VEARL BIBLE who lives in Tennessee writes using the same program. He is a computer expert and has helped me many times with this program. So I ask him for his help. Nothing that he suggested worked. About two months ago I called my cousin Vearl on the telephone. Cousin Vearl told me he had changed programs that he had found a program put out by the same company titled ROOTS- MAGIC. He told me to back up my database on a disk, make a GED.FILE, and a ZIPLOCK FILE, download ROOTS-MAGIC program, and then import my database to the new program. This sounded like a job for my daughter JOYCE MINTZAS. Joyce drove to Lawton, Oklahoma to the LAWTON/FORT SILL
VETERENS RETIREMENT CENTER where I have lived since 17 December 2003. Joyce followed VEARL BIBLE¡¯S instructions backing up my database to a disk; she put my database in a GED File, and a Zip-Lock file. Joyce took these entire files home with her and installed them into her computer and downloaded the ROOTS-MAGIC to her computer and imported my database to her computer and got familiar with the program. Joyce made another trip to install this program into my computer. Joyce taught me a little about the new program and then she went home to her family. That next week I learned many new cuss words trying to learn how to use that new program. I am 72 years old; I have sleep apnea and narcolepsy. I have a very difficult time staying awake during the day. I cannot get awake long enough to get out of my wheel chair and into my bed during the day. I tried for several days to stay awake long enough to follow my instruction to print out the manuscript from the new program
ROOTS-Magic. One day I tried nine times to follow the instructions for printing out the 1979 single pages of my manuscript. Every time I would get to this one place on my instruction sheet, I would fall asleep drop instruction on the floor. When I would awaken, I would chase the instruction with my GRAB-IT TOOL, I would finally catch it and pick up the instructions again. I repeated this routine nine times before I gave up.

I would fall asleep. My daughter JOYCE MINTZAS calls me every night at 9 p.m. I ask her to please come to Lawton and get my program to start printing, which she did. I ran that manuscript to page 1885, which was a page in the index in the ¡°H¡±. And would go no further. I now have used up six black ink cartridges and six reams of computer paper. I found out why I could not get that computer to print past 1885 pages it was because the program is saying the book only has 1263 pages. Both Joyce and I talked to Tech Support numerous times. I finally told Joyce I was going to start running this book from page one. My daughter told me to run the index first so I did. I went through lots of ink cartridges and reams of paper and the computer ran the index over again and I was able to get 1978 pages. Now I have to find all of the pictures and documents that go into this book.

The name Odell, O¡¯Dell, Odell, Odal, Odel, Odil, Odle, Oddle, Wadell, Wahall, Wahul, and Wahul are all of the same family. They were Flemish people from the kingdom of FLANDERS. In the year 1066 Walter Flandreneis a brother-in-law to WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR won the battle for England. WILLIAM THE CONQUERER gave WALTER FLANDRENEIS the ODELL CASTLE located on the RIVER OUSE in the Ancient Village of Odell, Bedfordshire, England thus created the BARON de Wahul. This castle burned to the ground about six years ago. There is a new mansion standing in its place. RODNEY ODELL of Yukon, Oklahoma just returned (April 2005) from a trip to the village. He took lots of pictures and sent me some. The walls of the old Odell Castle still surround the new mansion. There is a sign near the entrance gate that reads Odell Castle. RODNEY O¡¯DELL and his wife TAMMY brought me back a rock from THE ODELL CASTLE.

My fifth cousin MARRION RAY O¡¯DELL told me that when he wrote his book ¡°THE O¡¯DELL FAMILY¡± that no matter how they spelled their last name, he spelled it ¡°O¡¯DELL.¡± He spelled my part of the family ODLE as a courtesy to me. This helped him to only get one person in his book once. When I wrote the ODLE/ODELL book titled ¡°NO TIME FOR TEARS,¡± I spelled the name the way it was sent to me. Unfortunately I would get the same information with a different spelling of the last name. If I did not remember that particular family and they could be in the book several times.
In my book ¡°THE PAUL ODLE LEGACY¡° I have everyone¡¯s name as ODLE in the INDEX, but in the notes their name is spelled like they spelled it. The Spouses maiden name is the way they spell it in the INDEX. You well enjoy this book. This book is an awesome book written by Paul Odle noted ¡°STORY TELLER,¡± AUTHOR, ¡°FAMILY HISTORIAN.¡±

The Book ¡°The Paul Odle Legacy¡± is a three Volume book. The Author Paul Le Roy Odle, Sr. was born and raised in Yukon, Oklahoma and has been a resident the past two years of the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Retirement Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Paul Odle is the Author of ¡°MEET THE HALLADAYS,¡± ¡°THE TICE PIONEERS,¡± ¡°NO TIME FOR TEARS,¡± ¡°THE BIBLE STORY,¡± ¡°DANIEL BOONE AND YOU,¡± ¡°THE WAGNER FAMILY,¡± ¡°THE RIGGS FAMILY ISSUE,¡± and ¡°THE GREENLY GIRLS AND FRIENDS.¡± Paul Odle also writes stories for the magazine ¡°PRAIRIE LORE,¡± a Southwestern Oklahoma Historical Society book and a newspaper Column ¡°Memories ¡®Round The Mill.¡± I have enjoyed telling and writing stories ever since High School Days. I owe my love for writing to two School Teachers CLARA DAVIS and MRS. VANDAMENT. Yukon Schools bring out the best in everyone. My story¡¯s bring back fond memories.
All of my books can be found in the ¡°Mable Fry Library ¡° in Yukon, Oklahoma Five of my books can be found in LDS Library¡¯s around the world. The new Oklahoma Historical Society Research Library has Five of my books. My book titled ¡°NO TIME FOR TEARS¡± can be found in the Historical Library in Richmond, Missouri.
Wednesday May 3, 2006 I presented SUE KILMER Librarian of the ¡°Mable Fry Library¡± of Yukon, Oklahoma with my newest book ¡°THE PAUL ODLE LEGACY¡± Vol. 1,11,and 111. Pictured holding the three books L-R are PAUL L. ODLE, SR. Author, SUE KILMER Librarian of ¡°THE MABLE FRY LIBRARY,¡± and VENITA SHANNON.
On the same day VENITA SHANNON accompanied Paul Odle to the brand new Oklahoma Historical Society Research Library where they presented LAURA MARTIN with a Copy of ¡°THE PAUL ODLE LEGACY¡¯ by Paul Odle. Pictured is Paul Odle, Laura Martin, and Venita Shannon of Yukon. Nancy Lamb took the pictures. Nancy Lamb Gathered up all of my books that were in the Historical Library and put them on a Table and took pictures of Paul Odle with his books and with FREDERICK DITTMER a Genealogy Researcher from Norman, Oklahoma.
