Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: to submit or not

Dee Leonard stated:

As for Ancestry selling your info, that is true but they also have many
other sources of info that is very helpful.
---
And Susan Schlack stated:

I see individuals I submitted to WorldConnect at RootsWeb on ancestry.com.
They
show up on "One World Tree" (locked), and "Ancestry World Tree" (free).

Too bad it's the SAME INDIVIDUAL I submitted, on BOTH the free and
the locked trees. Newbies would be excited to see their relative on the
locked "One World Tree" and pay for access via the US Deluxe Membership,
which costs $155.40 a year.
---
In response to Dee and Susan--

Ancestry does not and has never sold or charged subscription fees to access
data that is freely uploaded and submitted by volunteer submitters. Ancestry
World Tree on the Ancestry side and RootsWeb's WorldConnect database were
combined quite some time ago so that they could be browsed and searched as one
combined database--but doing the searching and browsing of the trees is free
no matter which side you use to enter the database. If you think you know
of an instance where that has happened--please let us know the specific data
to which you refer.

One World Tree is a subscription service that provides an advanced search
engine to match and stitch similar or likely matched individuals together as a
"shortcut" and convenience to subscribers. The very same data included in
OWT from the family trees at WorldConnect and AWT is still free when accessed
via the RootsWeb or Ancestry side directly at AWT and WorldConnect--but you
have to do the matching of similar data yourself. (Actually it is very easy to
do by viewing an entry of interest on WorldConnect and clicking the SEARCH
WORLDCONNECT icon near the bottom of the page.)
