Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: bates/humphray

Marilyn,

I have a John R. Bates b)1866 in KY to a Michael Bates and Sciota Cox Bates.
Michael died before 1870 and his last child was born in 1868. Michael Bates
was the son of Thomas & Lucy Bates. In 1870 Sciota and the children were in
St. Charles Co. MO. In 1871 Sciota Cox Bates married John W. Harrison. They
are my gg grandparents. John Harrison was 15 years younger than Sciota.
About 1872 they moved to Clay Co. KS as the 1880 census shows their first
child is 8 and was born in KS. My ggrandfather was born in 1881. By 1900 I
can't find them on a census but my ggrandfather was married there in 1902
and then moved to NE shortly thereafter.

Michael & Lucy Bates are on the 1850 Pulaski Co. KY with 5 children, Martha,
Michael, Nancy, William and James.

1860 Pulaski Co. KY has Michael and Sciota with 2 of their children William,
Ballard. They later had Mary, John, and Barthonia.

I am interested in the Bates line because I am hoping to locate when and
where Sciota and John Harrison died and are buried. 1880 they still have 2
of the Bates children living with them and I think they remained close.

Does this sound like it might be a connection?

Linda
