Doris Augusta Archer was boarding there at the age of 14 and there is no further mention of her. This was in the 1910 census. Susan ANSWER TO ABOVE: Susan, While you didn't say where Doris was born I checked the 1910 Census and it stated that she was born Vermont. You said her parents had moved to California. Since you had given her mother's maiden name (Colby) I went to the California Death Index on Ancestry and asked for a Doris, born Vermont, mother's maiden name Colby. Didn't even give the father's surname as sometimes there are typos that deter getting an answer. The below is what came up from them. Am 99.99% sure this is your Doris. Now you can send for a Death Certificate for further details. Hope this helps, Gretchen PS - The California Death Index can also be found in ROOTS. However I have found that sometimes they do not totally agree. I have found at least one particular death in one and not the other. Doesn't mean one is better than the other and I'm not sure why the records were different in that case.
