Subject: [ROOTS-L] Entry into "Mormon" Church

I thought I might reply to this posting, as I am sure that others will.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, or
Mormon Church as many (including ourselves) call us. We have no
problem with the name Mormon, incidentally.

Anyone can go into an LDS Church. We welcome all who may come. What
Mr. Samuelsen was probably referring to are our Temples, which, after
they are dedicated, are only open to members of the Church who are
'recommended' by their leadership. It is a matter of obedience to
the basic tenants of our Church that determines our worthiness to
attend the Temple. Prior to their dedication, we hold open houses
during which we encourage member and non member alike to see and tour
these most special of our facilities.

The FHC I volunteer in is staffed by probably a 50-50 mix of member
and non member; we could not meet the needs of those who attend
without each of the dedicated volunteers; member and non member alike.

My best wishes to all on the list!
Warren White
