Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re:Second cousin vs. half-cousin

I am no authority on relationships, but if I came upon the term
"half-cousin" I would assume that the half-cousin was the child of one's parent's
half-brother or half-sister.

<In reviewing a very detailed 1930 letter from England on the subject of
family genealogy, there were several times when the term "half-cousin" was used
when, based upon other facts, the term should have been "second cousin"
(children of children of an Aunt). The term seemed to be also used for the wife of
a full cousin. Does anybody know if it was common practice to use "half"
instead of "second" in these ways?>
