Subject: [ROOTS-L] Second Cousins vs Half-Cousins

In reviewing a very detailed 1930 letter from England on the subject of family genealogy, there were several times when the term "half-cousin" was used when, based upon other facts, the term should have been "second cousin" (children of children of an Aunt). The term seemed to be also used for the wife of a full cousin. Does anybody know if it was common practice to use "half" instead of "second" in these ways?
