Subject: [ROOTS-L] military Personnel Records, St. Louis, Mo.

My mother sent in a request for her fathers World War I records, which I
might add Gretchen informed me that Leon Mckinley Wise was indeed in the
military according to the 1930 Laramie, Wyoming census, listed as Laon Wise. Here
is an important exerpt of the letter my mom received. "The record needed to
answer your inquiry is not in our files. If the record were here on July 12,
1973 it would have been in an area that suffered the most damage in the fire
on that date and may have been destroyed. The fire destroyed the major
portion of records of Army military personnel for the period 1912 through 1959,
and records of Air Force personnel with surnames Hubbard through Z. for the
period 1947 through 1963. Fortunately, there are alternate records sources that
often contain information which can be used to reconstruct service record
data lost in the fire; however, complete records cannot be reconstructed."
you can contact them online at _http://vetrecs.archive.gov_
(http://vetrecs.archive.gov) .
We did get verification of him being in the service so the picture my mom
has of the man in the WW I uniform is indeed her father. thanx Rebecca Bral
