Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: ROOTS-L Digest- Ancestry.com

Carol,

I have a subscription to Ancestry. There are pros and cons even for those
of us who will continue to keep up our subscriptions. I didn't find the
newspapers very helpful, so I have dropped that. They are adding to their
newspaper collection, so I may try it again in a couple of years.
Obviously, having images of newspapers in a place and time that one is
researching is much more useful.

I found my gg grandparent's passenger list record. The census records
have been extremely useful for me. My Mother's family has many family
researchers, and we have been at it for many years. But my Father's
family has only shown a slight interest and there isn't a lot of
information. Those census records have helped me fill in a lot of
information, other than just names and dates.

I found the WWI draft registration cards for both of my grandfather's
-with their signatures. The WWII enlistment records for one of my uncles.
Which reminds me to look for another uncle. I have also found information
on my maternal gg grandfather's Civil War records. Information on some of
the battles his unit fought in.

The "Family Trees" can be disappointing. I keep hoping I'm going to find
someone who has that one piece of information that will break through one
of my brick walls. I just keep looking and hoping.

Hope this helps.

Dian
