Subject: [ROOTS-L] DNA Test Question

My brick wall is John Randolph Huggins (1813-1903
Wetzel County, WV) who married Anna Barbara Eddy.
I've been unable to find his parents. I've read
articles and books on the Huggins family with the same
results - unknown parents.

There's another Huggins from about the same time in
which his parents are unknown. His name was Goyen or
George Huggins (1815 PA - 1856 Wetzel County) and he
was married to Barbara Yoho.

By the 1880 census, Goyen was dead. His widow had
remarried Stephen Montgomery and they were listed on
the same census page as John Randolph Huggins. One of
Goyen's sons also had a farm listed on the same page.
I know it's no guarantee they were neighbors just
because they're on the same page but you'd think they
lived relatively close to each other.

I wonder if John Randolph and Goyen were related but
obviously I can't tell without knowing their parents.

I've been having an email correspondence with Goyen's
great-great grandson. Last year, I was able to find
my Uncle, who is John Randolph's great-great grandson.
If these two men were DNA tested and the results came
back they're related, wouldn't that mean Goyen and
John Randolph were related? Both great-great
grandsons are sons of sons of sons, etc. so there were
no female Huggins to interfere with the Huggins gene
pool.

I'm not an expert on DNA but I do remember reading the
most comprehensive results come from testing men.

Wouldn't this work?

Thanks,
dee
