Hi Phil!

>Hello Paulette , a question for you ! , say I find someone in the Canadian

You can only back it up with more information..... Is it western Canada
or Eastern? If western, can you find a land grant for that person? If it
is eastern, I am not too sure how they went about things. You need to
keep track of the address they are at and find another document to back
up the address to the name.

Even after being 100% sure in your heart, it may still end up being
someone else! Documentation is the key. The more "documents" you have
that say the same thing the more sure you can be.

I only found them in the 1881 census at www.familysearch.org like this:

Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace
Occupation Religion
H. BALTHAZARD1 Male French 39 Eastern Canada
 Pr\Etre Cotholique Roman
 BRAZEAU2 W Female French 48 Eastern Canada
 M\Enag`Era Cotholique Roman
Cedulie BOUDREAU Female French 12 Eastern Canada
                    Cotholique Roman
Marie ADAM Female French 22 Eastern Canada
                          Cotholique Roman
Ulderic JETTE Male French 13 Eastern
Canada Domestique Cotholique Roman
Notes: 1 = Rev. + 2 = Dame Veuve
Source Information:
Census Place Richelieu & Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours, Rouville,
Quebec
     Family History Library Film 1375839
     NA Film Number C-13203
     District: 63, Sub-district: A, Division: 2, Page Number: 2,
Household Number: 9

Now the only other census that would do you any good is the 1891 census
which I have never gotten my hands on and I think is only available on
film. But the above census may give you some clues.

Hope this helps!
