Do you have your 2nd gr grandfather's military records file or his 
pension file from the Archives?  Those are two different types of 
documents that have to be requested individually from NARA.

Bounty land records is another set of info which is requested 
separately, or at least they were when we requested info on an 
ancestor.  We had info that he was granted bounty land as a result of 
his service with Kentucky troops during the war of 1812 but the 
Archives didn't have anything about how he used the grant.  By 
accident, we found a land deed that acreage in Iowa was given to him 
much later long after he'd moved from Kentucky.  He used the warrant 
from his military service with the Kentucky troops.
