You can find the new service at http://vermont-archives.org/database/. There are currently two databases available. The first database is the Records Series Database, which is described this way on the site: "The Record Series database offers series level access to records that have been transferred to the Vermont State Archives by their creating State agencies, departments, or courts." You can search by either creator or series keyword; I did a series keyword search for maps. Though I didn't get a count of my results, results included deeds and maps from the Rutland Railway Corporation, Vermont State Highway maps from 1923 onward, and Public Service Commission maps of rural electric lines, 1946-1950. Series search results include the series creator, title of the series, extent (1 cubic foot, 2 large envelopes, etc.) restrictions (all the ones I saw were open) and location. About half of the results I saw had a pointer to online information. The second database is the NYE Index. The NYE Index was created by Mary Greene Nye as a name and subject index to Manuscript Vermont State Papers and the Stevens Papers. This database encompasses over 53,000 cards from the NYE Index, covering all 18th century records. 19th century records will be added as time and resources allow. A search for Spears found two results, containing a name, description, date, card ID, record series, volume, and page.
