Subject: [ROOTS-L] Balch Brick Wall

Hello to All Researchers and Obsessed Individuals,

This is my first time to ask a question. I have been watching and have
gotten some super information. Forgive me if I do something wrong.
I am researching the Balch line of my family. This I know:
Aaron Balch (b. abt 1803 VT) married Betsy Wilbur (b. abt 1810 NY) abt 1825
in New York. They had a son Warren J Balch born 26 Oct 1826 in New Mandon,
NY. This is according to The Portrait and Biographical Record of Genessee,
Lapeer, and Tuscola Counties, Michigan, 1892. I think the New Mandon may be a
typo for Mendon, NY, as I cannot find a Mandon, NY anywhere. In 1828 they had
another son, born in NY and named him Horace. Mary Jane was born 25 July, 1832
in Buffalo, Erie Co., NY (Family Search.org info). Jerome was born 1833 in
NY. Around 1835 the family moved to Michigan Territory. Aaron bought land in
Macomb County on 2 Nov, 1837. (On 1 Apr, 1837 Simeon Balch b. abt 1813 in VT
and perhaps a brother bought land a little north in what would become Almont,
Lapeer County.) Some time between 1837 and 1840 Aaron sold his land and moved
to Lapeer County with Simeon. The 1840 MI census shows them in Bristol (to
become Almont), Lapeer Co, MI. Both men stayed in the area the rest of their
lives. Betsy died around 1842 and Aaron remarried the widow of Lorenzo
Burton, Sally Ann White Burton in Lapeer Co on 20 May, 1847. They went on to have
children, one of whom is my great great grandfather Aaron Francis (Frank)
Balch. My problem is this- I cannot find Aaron's (and possibly Simeon's) father.
I have Aaron's death certificate; he died 2 May 1879 in Almont, Lapeer Co,
MI. Unfortunately, it doesn't list a parent. I haven't even been able to find
Aaron in NY census in 1830 or 1820. I was hoping to find a specific area in NY
where Warren was born and check for a birth record or something. After
reading many of your posts, though, I see NY didn't really keep records that
early. I know if I could get back just one or two more generations I could look in
the Balch book and go back farther. My grandfather always said the Balch's
came over on the Mayflower. I can't get far enough back to check it out. Can
anyone help me go from here?

Brenda
