Dick HOEKEN's little son, Ernst, is very sick.

Alex. LAFOON, who came from Dakota to visit relatives in this county, was
taken back, last week, to testify against Gov. ORDWAY in the United States court
at Yankton.

On the 12th inst. Mrs. G.E. MARSDEN, presented her husband with a pair of
babies, a boy and girl. Mrs. M. has had a serious time of it since, but is now
thought to be in a fair way to speedy recovery.

Prof. GREEN informs us that he has a regular mathematical prodigy in his
school, in the person of Ida VREELAND, a Miss of 12 years. It is to be hoped that
her parents will be able to give her a chance to develop her talents.

George GRAHAM, one of the oldest residents of Meramec township, died on the
11th inst. Of late years the old gentleman had been in rather indigent
circumstances, and the county court had made an appropriation for his support at the
late term.

J.W. SENTER and Miss Josephine PRESLEY were married on the 13th inst., at
Frumet, by 'Squire Geo. McFARLAND. We presume this is the couple the 'Squire had
treed for some time.

OBITUARY - Died at his residence near Danby, after a short illness of
pneumonia, Austin JAHNSEN, in the 41st year of his age, on Monday, April the 7th,
1884. Deceased was a native of Sweeden, and emigrated to this country in 1867,
and settled in this county the same year. In 1872 he was married to Miss Nancy
Jane MEDLEY, daughter of Josephus MEDLEY of this county. The results of this
union are five children, the oldest 11 years, the youngest 9 weeks. Mr.
JAHNSEN was a very hard working and industrious man. He was buried the following
day in the WEAVER graveyard, on Monday. Quite a number followed his remains to
the grave testifying the esteem and respect in which he was held. (Note the
days of death and burial, they were printed thus in the paper.)

Gas. W. BALDWIN, of the Ironton HERALD, died week before last. He was a
young man of extraordinary ability and good moral character and a native of Cape
Girardeau county. May he rest in peace.

charity and prefers to earn his living.

General A. PARTNEY, a patient from this county, died in the State lunatic
asylum at Fulton, on the 14th inst., of consumption. Dr. SMITH, the
superintendent, informed the County clerk that they buried him them Fulton, in a neat
coffin and black suit.

We are informed by letter from brother Tom, that we have another niece in
Arkansas. She was born the next day after Tom returned from his flying trip to
Yankton, Dakota, to testify against Gov. ORDWAY. It was on her account that he
did not stop over here to see his friends.

Ernst, son of Fannie and Richard HOEKEN, died last Sunday, the 27th inst.
aged 1 year, 8 months and 11 days. He was a bright child, the pet of the family,
and his death was a sad blow to the fond parents. The neighbors showed their
sympathy by attending the funeral in one of the largest processions we have
ever seen in Hillsboro. Rev. EMORY conducted the services.
