Have to get my say in here on this one.....
I am one of those who was adopted by my biological grandfather and his second
wife.
They are my parents!!!! My biological Mother is now legally my half sister.
She has children by her second husband, five of them all with families of
their own and none of them know for certain I am their half sister, not their
aunt. My biological Mother is still living and has made it very clear to me that
she does not want this known to her other children. All adults between 40-50
years of age. I have no children so it won't matter as far as my line ends
with me. Everyone in the family knows the truth about this and I am sure my
half siblings also know...My genealogy files indicate my adopted parents as my
parents, with the notation who my biological parents are. I have a separate
file for my biological family that is for my own interests.
One thing of interest I have found....way back....it appears my adopted
Mother's family has connections with my biological grandfather's family and certain
members were actually cousins so you never know and I find it fascinating.

There is also a member of the family who was never told who his biological
father was. Lots of different ideas. Only two people knew for sure and both
are gone now. This person does have children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren and how are they ever going to know what their true line is without DNA
or something. I think that is sad.

I spend a lot more time researching my adoptive family mainly because they
are the ones I grew up with and I have nephews of this family that I want to be
sure they know what their line is. They know I am biologically their "cousin"
but legally their Aunt.
Don't lie about these things.
Children who are interested (and most are at some point in their lives) will
find out the truth eventually.
Linda
